LABORATORIUM #2 - “Solstrenger”

“Solstrenger” is the title of a work composed for hardanger fiddle, double bass and voice, written for Helga Myhr and myself. The work is part of the project LYDREISE, being the second part of this threefold idea (more on LYDREISE here)

The work starts out from the hymn Nu rinner solen opp av østerlide, which translates to something like As the sun rises in the East. I have written a new melody for the hymn. The piece the develops into a slowly moving phonetic examination of the different words and phrases of the hymn. I use both graphic notation and traditional notation in this piece. Some parts opens up for a lot of improvisation by both myself and Helga, while other parts are more strictly composed.

In this LABORATORIUM concert we will try out some ideas that I will further develop before the piece is set to premiere in October.
